The South Peninsula

Area Guide

Simon’s Town sits at the heart of one of the world’s great stretches of coastline. Here’s our family’s curated guide to the places, experiences, and hidden gems that make the Cape South Peninsula extraordinary.

Boulders Beach Penguins
Nature & Wildlife

Boulders Beach

Home to a colony of endangered African penguins — and a 10-minute walk from Thomas Street House.

Skip the main boardwalk entrance and use the Seaforth Beach access instead. Same penguins, fraction of the crowd, and you can swim alongside them.

Looking North From Cape Point To Simonstown
Day Trips

Cape Point

Where the Cape Peninsula ends in dramatic cliffs and wild ocean. Hiking, wildlife, and raw natural beauty.

Take the Shipwreck Trail rather than the tourist path to the lighthouse. It's longer but you'll have it to yourself.

Rosie The Seal Kalk Bay Harbour
Where to Eat

Kalk Bay Harbour

Fresh fish straight off the boats, artisan shops, and the best café culture on the peninsula.

Get to Kalky's fish and chips before noon — the queue gets serious by lunchtime. Then walk up to Olympia Café for the best coffee south of Cape Town.
